Beaming eyes. Button nose bedecked with freckles. Curious fingertips grasp at the Barbie your grandma gave you two christmas’ ago, as you pull her from her California dream house and into a scissor wielding nightmare. Where everything started. Where creativity is less a tint brush and scissors and more an out of date nail varnish stippled across a perfectly placed texta highlight on Barbs’ new cropped mullet. Sometimes the most wonderful ideas are forgotten in time, but sometimes the most wonderful ideas are brought to life. Hello DollFace is a cultivation of everything your younger self once aspired to create, only bigger, brighter and using techniques the nail varnish and sharpies couldn’t quite master. Taking inspiration from all that is a little bit left of centre and experimental, contrasting textures and tones, patterns and the excitement of colour. Hello DollFace is something that everyone can feel a connection to, while getting to see the animation and adventure hair can have and be. Think punk Barbie, patterns in pop colour and Andy Warhols’ pop art movement of Marilyn Monroe.

Androgyny means conforming to neither gender perfectly, to mix both identities in the same person, in stylistic harmony. But the hairstylist noticed an odd trend in the androgynous aesthetic – it relied too heavily on traditional masculine stereotypes to be truly genderless. And that was all the spark she needed to be inspired to create her new collection Genderless.

Inspired by the concept of a flock of birds taking flight together, this is a visual representation of how fragile fibres woven together amass strength and beauty. This collection aims to celebrate our individual fragility and diversity, yet demonstrate the strength we can achieve when we come together. In the same way that a flock of birds is contrived of many species, as human beings, our rich and diverse cultures all have a role to play in that it has something to offer the collective strength, whether it be traditional cuisine, fashion, dance, rituals or simply a way of living.
